Episode 852 is coming for the fourth time from Radio Free Amsterdam’s temporary Detroit headquarters in the Hartford Rehab Clinic where I’m recuperating from open heart surgery on Valentine’s Day and observing the 65 th anniversary of the passing of the great Charlie Parker from our mortal sphere in 1955 as well as the centennial of his birth in Kansas City on August 29, 1920, with an hour of his earliest recordings starting with the Jay McShann Orchstra in 1942 and a survey of his 78 rpm singles for Dial & Savoy Records between 1945 & 1948, culminating with a live reading of “Salt Peanuts” with Dizzy Gillespie from their Carnegie Hall concert in 1947. Bird Lives!
