Our investigation into the music cut by John Coltrane for Atlantic Records during 1959-1961 takes us tonight to the final Atlantic recoridng sessions of May 25, 1961 where Trane augmented the Quartet of McCoy Tyner (piano) , Reginald Workman (bass) and Elvin Jones (drums) with reedman Eric Dolphy, Art Davis on second bass, and Freddie Hubbard on trumpet. The songs recorded at these sessions are presented here in a different order from which they were cut in the Atlantic Recording Studios, The first two tunes of this episode are the last of the epic Quartet sessions of October 1960. Next: Coltrane on Impulse!
