John Sinclair Radio Show 721: Chasin’ The Bird

 

Almost 100 years ago, on August 29, 1920, the great alto saxohonist Charlie “Yardbird” Parker was born in Kansas City, Kansas and grew up in KC, Missouri, where he joined the Jay McShann Orchestra in 1941 and began to make his mark on the creative music of the 20th century. In honor of Bird’s birthday we’re presenting an hour of his early music, mostly 78 rpm singles for Savoy and Dial Records cut between November 1945 and the end of 1947, for your listening and dancing pleaure, featuring such sidemen as Miles Davis, Lucky Thompson, Bud Powell, Max Roach, John Lewis, and Dizzy Gillespie. Dig it!
