Episode 745 is coming from the home studio of my close friend and mentor, Jerry Brock, in uptown New Orleans when I’m staying for the next few weeks until it’s time to go back to Detroit for the 6th annual THC Expo at the Roostertail and the many Michigan marijuana events to follow in March & April. With only three exceptions I’m playing tracks today from three CDs I produced for WWOZ Radio in the early 1990s—25 years ago!—when they wanted to initiate a series of albums to give away as premiums during their biannual find drives and I put these together with Mark Bingham and the late Keith Keller featuring music by Snooks Eaglin, Lady Linda Young & The Chosen Few Brass Band, Deacon John, Earl King with Tommy Ridgley & The Untouchables, Ironing Board Sam, Eddie Bo, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Charles Neville & Diversity, and the Zion Harmonizers, plus cuts from The Soul Rebels, The Spiders, and the classic Snooks Eaglin anthem, “I Went To The Mardi Gras,” just completed.
