Episode 762 is coming as usual this year from the Detroit studios of Radio Free Amsterdam up above the Carl Lundgren Art Studio in the Cass Corridor on Father’s Day, and I’m rememberiung my father, Jack Sinclair, born in 1910, died in 1973, as well as my mother, Elsie Sinclair, born 1912, died in 2000, my borther David, born 1945 and died in 2008, and my sister Kathy, who turned 75 years old two days ago. Me, if I live to October I’ll make 77 years old! I’ve often told this story but when I was a kid listening to R&B on the radio at the age of 11 or 12, on Friday mornings I would give my dad a list of 10 or 12 records that I wanted (78 rpm singles) and he would stop by Ernie’s Record Rack at 943 Leith Street near Industrial on his lunch hour and buy me two sides with my weekly allowance of $2.00. The records would be the ones I’m playing today in his honor, the ones that my sister and I grew up listening and dancing to by Red Prysock, Dave Bartholomew, Bill Haley & The Comets, The Treniers, Elvis Presley, Ruth Brown, Chuck Berry, Etta James, Big Joe Turner, The Drifters, Billy Ward & The Dominoes, The Clovers, The Cadets, Roy Brown, Ray Charles, The Medallions, The “5” Royales, The Five Keys, Gatemouth Brown, Big Jay McNeely, and Tommy Ridgely.
