Episode 811 is coming from Radio Free Amsterdam headquarters in Detroit with the first part of a multi-houred salute to my recently departed friend, mentor, and personal physician called Dr. John but known to his intimates as Mac (or Max) Rebennack, the one-of-a-kind New Orleans pianist, guitarist, singer, composer, producer and indelible character who put in 77 years on this severe planet before succumbing to a heart attack early on June 5th Our first segment presents music from Mac’s first three albums for Atco Records: Gris Gris Gumbo Ya Ya (1968), Babylon (1969), and Remedies (1970).
