Episode 980 is coming from Radio Free Amsterdam headquarters in Detroit’s Cass Corridor at 55 Peterboro Street with an hour of music from the earliest years of the Prestige Records era of Sonny Rollins’ incredible development into one of the greatest jazzmen of all time, including cuts from sessions with Jay Jay Johnson’s Boppers (May 26, 1949); The Miles Davis Quintet (January 17, 1951); the Miles Davis Sextet (October 5, 1951); the first Sonny Rollins ate as a leader with hIs quartet (December 17, 1951); a session with the Modern Jazz Quartet (October 7, 19 53); and the complete quintet date with Thelonious Monk (November 13, 1953).
