Episode 987 is coming from Radio Free Amsterdam headquarters in Detroit’s Cass Corridor at 55 Peterboro Street, and I wanted to start the New Year with an hour of music from my new album with New Orleans pianist Tom Worrell, recorded in early October by Mike Boulan at The Shop in Hazel Park. This project is a remake of my first album from 1991 with the late Cincinnati pianist Ed Moss, duet performances of 15 of my Thelonious Monk poems from always know: a book of monk performed to the Monk compositions they were inspired by. The Moss album was never released, the pianist and the producer both passed away, and the original tapes were lost in the confusement, so I decided to recut the program with Tom Worrell on piano for this album titled fly right—a monk suite. Hope you enjoy it!
