Ancestor Worship 88: Meditations

Episode 88 continues our prolonged investigation into the music of the John Coltrane Quartet recorded for Impuse Records with four sessions from the extremely fertile year of 1965: May 17 (“Song of Praise”), June 16 (“Vigil”), August 26 (“Ascent”), and November 23, 1965, when the quratet of John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison & Elvin Jones was joined by Pharoah Sanders (tenor saxophone) and Rashied Ali (drums) to record the remaining selections from the brilliant Meditations album, with a truncated version of “Joy” to close the show.
