Roots & Branches 36: The House of Sound

William Parker is great again in his third and final hour with Don Paul & Maryse Déjean, with music including “Invocation (for David S. Ware)”, two duets of William and Hamid Drake, one with Milford Graves, one with his partner Patricia Nicholson Parker, and one from his group Raining On The Moon. This hour also presents the Muntu EnsembleBilly Higgins, the Kitchen Blend Band, Raphe Malik in duet with Jimmy Lyons, and pieces featuring Glenn Spearman and Lisle Ellis. William’s talk of his history from the 1970s onward adds glimpses into future projects. The episode is rich with great music and performers and the expansiveness exemplified by William’s watchword that “You can always get a room in the house of sound.”
