Fly By Night 347: High And Lonesome

Steve The Fly is providing his timeslot this week to intoduce a brand new acquisition of the Radio Free Amsterdam archive: Detroit’s own Jesse Crawford on the air at WKNR-FM in suburban Dearborn MI exactly 50 years ago, on February 5, 1970. One of the creators of free-form radio, Jesse replaced Jim Osterberg on drums in the Prime Movers Blues Band, road managed and MCed for the MC-5, worked as a deejay on WKNR, drummed for the Mojo Boogie Band of Ann Arbor, and fled to Jamaica in the mid-70s. Jesse introduced much of the music he played on WKNR to young white music lovers in the Detroit area, much to their benefit.
