THE GROOVE YARD 172 – COOKIN’ AT THE CONTINENTAL

George Klein presents the second hour of a multi-part series on pianist, composer & bandleader Horace Silver. This hour focuses on early sessions as a leader of a quintet for Blue Note Records starting in 1956. There are tracks from the albums Six Pieces of Silver, Further Explorations, & Finger Poppin’. All the tunes heard were composed by Silver. Members of the quintet for these sessions include Donald Byrd, Art Farmer, or Blue Mitchell on trumpet; Hank Mobley, Clifford Jordan, or Junior Cook on tenor sax. Bassists include Doug Watkins, Teddy Kotick & Gene Taylor. Louis Hayes is the drummer throughout.
