George Klein presents the second hour of his feature on tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon covering the 1950’s, when Gordon was mostly off the scene because of continuing drug problems. This episode focuses on two albums: Daddy Plays the Horn (1955) with pianist Kenny Drew, which shows what he is capable of, and The Resurgence of Dexter Gordon (1960), recorded with a larger ensemble while he was on parole from prison for drug charges and on his way back to active musician status. Plus there’s a final cut featuring Dex with alto saxophonist Jackie McLean.
