George Klein presents a fourth hour of music by trumpeter Donald Byrd, part of a series on musicians from Detroit, with an emphasis today on his Blue Note recordings from the early and mid-sixties collected on the albums A New Perspective and I’m Trying to Get Home, featuring colleagues Pepper Adams, Hank Mobley, Herbie Hancock, Doug Watkins, Kenny Burrell, and Grant Green, with voices arranged by Duke Pearson and directed by Coleridge Perkinson, and with a brass section. This episode closes with selections from an album titled Black Jack featuring Sonny Redd and Hank Mobley.
