George Klein presents the third hour of his feature on tenor and soprano saxophonist Lucky Thompson, part of his series on musicians from Detroit, focusing on Thompson’s return to the U.S. after a long stay in Paris and on three Prestige albums in the 1960s (Plays Jerome Kern, Lucky Strikes, Happy Days are Here Again) with fellow Detroiters Hank Jones or Tommy Flanagan on piano, and with Thompson adding soprano sax to his tenor well before it became popular with saxophonists.
